Rolling Stones... ugh. Gimme U2

No SuperBowl show before and none after will ever match U2.

After the 2002 Superbowl in Louisiana, all the rest (the Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney and even Janet and her Boob) pale...

I realize they had the weight of history with/behind them... but they rose to the occasion and took us along with them.

When Bono walks down the stage praying "Oh Lord, open my lips that I might show forth Thy praise" I still get chills.

Absolutely amazing.

It's a monster download, but you can get it here...

If you haven't watched it lately, it's time.

This is awesome. Thanks for the link, man.

crazy that it takes an Irishman to tell this country what its aspirational ideals are. with Bono, love for country most certainly does not get confused with nationalistic fervor.

Bob, by "Janet's boob" do you mean Justin Timberlake?

Thanks for this...my sentiments exactly. In fact, during the Stones performance I kept thinking "I can't get no...sa-tis-faction..."

Nice blog, btw.

blessings, bro.

Bono can comfort us, like he did at the 2002 halftime show or challenge us and make us a bit uncomfortable like he did a few days ago at the National Prayer Breakfast. Kind of sounds like a preacher. Interesting that a Irish rock star would be one of the nation's most effective Christian leaders.

What? You're telling me you would rather see Bono, that pompous, self-righteous moronic hypocrite crooning blandly over a predictable and overblown backing of dreary, sentimental arena pop over the Stones?

Now the Stones are obviously WAY past their best and a shadow of what they once were, but they still made some of the most exhilirating, life-affirming and downright fantastic music the world has ever seen. Besides, at least Mick Jagger doesn't suspiciously latch onto activist causes only when he has a new album coming out, or preach about the horrors of Third World Debt while having his misplaced hat flown to him first class for thousands of dollars.

OK, I appreciate that whatever his motivations, the guy does a lot of good for the world, and that can't be a bad thing, but it doesn't mean he isn't a complete asshole.
