No one punctures windbags and points out spin like Jon Stewart. I wish he'd do it (more) in a bi-partisan way, but he's got his POV and he's entitled to it...
I post this because
1. It's funny
2. It illustrates what I was talking about below- the positions we take on issues (here it's Republicans, but Democrats do it equally) depend on party affiliation and switch back and forth depending on the party of those making the charges and defending against them.
It shows how ridiculous and absolutely unprincipled most in the system have become, and how most will simply repeat exactly what they think they are supposed to say at the moment.
I'll say one other thing- Barack Obama impressed me with his performance at the Saddleback forum. The answers he gave were thoughtful and nuanced and one could tell he was actually thinking about them- yes- there were some "talking point" moments- but for the most part, you got the feeling he was actually considering what he said.
McCain, was the opposite. Talking points were all he gave. Short, sound-bite snippets.
Of course, who you thought did better there is probably dependent mostly on who you've already decided to vote for...
The first 2 examples on the video were pretty good... The last 3 seemed to be a stretch, mainly because I haven't heard Sarah Palin whine about the attacks... Others defend her (whine for her, maybe), and she certainly defends her record, but I don't think I've heard her whine.
I just am amazed at the things people are saying about her ability to be a mom/VP... And people have suggested that she shouldn't be doing this to her daughter (the pregnant one)... Things they wouldn't dare say to a liber

Your comment about wishing Stewart would be more bi-partisan hit home with me. I was just telling my wife that when Stewart and company lampoon Democrats, it seems to be mostly playful, whereas when he goes after Republicans, it seems more mean-spirited. I personally don't find "mean" to be as funny. As this clip demonstrates, Stewart is at his absolute best not when he's aiming at politicians or even particular political issues, but when he's aiming at media types and talking heads.

By the way - my above comment comes from an "outsider" perspective. I am independent, undecided, and ambivalent about USAmerican politics.

Laura, I don't think the third example was about Palin whining, but McCain's advisor whining. In that sense, I think it fits.
