2 things...
Are you spending any mental energy at all worrying about things you have yet to do, trying not to forget to do certain things, or avoiding looking at your to-do list because you are scared of what's there? We all remember Curly from City Slickers and his "One Thing!" philosophy. I think I used that clip a time or two while preaching from Philippians 3. Just two. Want to know what they are?
Anyway, Curly was wrong. You need two things.
When I meet with people who are in a state of disarray or anxiety about business, I almost always quickly discern that it's not the amount of things they have to do that's stressing them, it's all the things they forget to do, all the things that get pushed off and forgotten, overlooked or left until too late.
So, I give them my simplified version of organization:
2 things...
Write stuff down
Look at it later.
That's it.
You don't have to remember 5, 10, 15 or 100 things. You simply have to remember 2, and if you can remember those two (what were they? Can you remember without looking??), you can remember and do everything else.
For me, it's the Hipster and a constant attachment to my to-do/Vitalist lists. For you, it might be something else...
But how about letting go of stressing over not forgetting all you need to do. Write it down when you think of it (that very moment! Trying to remember to write down something you need to do creates just as much stress as trying to remember something you need to do) and then look at it religiously. Start of the day, middle of the day, end of the day before driving home (yes- lots of phone calls you can make on the way home)...
2 things.
