Amazon reviews...

Doug had briefly posted a bit about reviews for his preaching book on Amazon. There weren't too many that had been written and I think he was (understandably) trying to stir up a bit of traffic. (He took it down, most likely because the negative comments were starting to pile up... sheesh- lighten up people!)

Anyway, this works well for me- My review of Preaching Re-imagined has now become a "spotlight" review and all the positive votes (boo to you 4 meanies out there) are propelling me ever closer to my goal of Amazon Top 1,000 Reviewer!

pain... I have no idea if our gathering "worked" for anyone but me today... but it worked for me. I got where I needed to go. We walked through the first part of Luke 7... Jesus heals someone's servant. He raises a widow's son from the dead... He leaves John in prison. (by the way... excellent call Scott Lyons, in the comments on my last post on this chapter- you are right... Jesus quotes a messianic passage from Isaiah to John, and conveniently "forgets" the part about releasing the captives- I used that today... way to go with the community sermon prep!) The things is, I was just about weepy through most of the morning... I felt a little goofy for not being able to get it together... As we were talking about the widow who lost her only son, and the impact that would have on her, I told how a couple of weeks ago, when Amy's dad died, she called me in absolute hysterics. I couldn't understand anything she was saying to me, other than the word "dead." I heard "he's dead." All I could think was that Jack had been hurt... killed. For about 30 seconds, the bottom...

gone Sorry about the blogging lapse, everyone. I was in Florida for my sister's wedding. How very odd to fly across the country for a weekend visit. Did our great-grandparents ever even imagine that would be so? Odd to be gone from the computer... I took the whole weekend off. When I told my wife that, she had a difficult time believing me. I tend to have the computer glued to my lap (in fact, it's a wonder it hasn't rendered me sterile- but no worries! Number 2 is on the way and due in May!!). At any rate, whereas the thought of a weekend away from my cyber reality would have at one time freaked me out considerably, it was actually a really nice break. I can take my hands off the wheel for a few days... the car won't go off the road. Odd to be gone from evergreen this weekend. I think, I'm not sure but I think... that this was only my second Sunday missed? Is that right? So odd to be sitting on a sunny Florida back porch with a cool breeze blowing, thinking "They're setting up now. Someone's doing the welcome now. They're just about...
