missing...

I'm missing guys night at the Horse Brass tonight. I was going to go there, Amy is at a church planter's wives get-together tonight (I know not all church planters have wives... it's just the way this one worked out), and her sister was going to come babysit... but Cara got sick.

So Jack and I are having our own little man-group here at home. Watching the Simpsons, eating too much, scratching wherever it itches! Good times, good times...

some amazon jive... A couple cool Amazon things... First, someone bought me a book off of my Amazon wish list. Very cool. I did some checking (the name was on the receipt, though I didn't immediately recognize her)... it's the sister of Shawn Cardwell, a very cool "member" of evergreen... Very, very cool. And today is HER birthday- even more spectacularly cool. I need to find her email address to say thanks... The other thing is my ranking on the Amazon reviews. When I started doing them (I was going to shoot for one every couple of days... that didn't quite work out) I was ranked somewhere on the south side of 300,000. I'm now 5,902! Rock on. I did a little experiment tonight, writing the same review for four seasons of the King Of Queens. Trying to "up" my stats... core commitments... I've tried twice to get a discussion about the "core commitments" of evergreen going. Fell flat both times. I'm revving up to take another crack at it. What do I mean by "core commitments"? Well, our core values are the values we are building the community around. It's not as though we're saying that if you have no interest in things like being missional or justice (for example) that you wouldn't be welcome at evergreen, but we want you to know coming in that these things are what the community is about. In the same way, I think a community, to retain cohesion as it grows, to grow together and not apart and to let people know what's expected of them as participating members of the community should define what the core commitments of that community are. I got to thinking about this again because of two things.
