As I've been preaching through Luke, the two most helpful books/commentaries for me have been the Moody Gospel Commentary on Luke and NT (Tom) Wright's short little book, Luke For Everyone.
The Moody Commentary is scholarly, concise and utterly usable. It doesn't give me preaching points and illustrations nor does it get bogged down in the minute details. It simply provides clear, well written exegetical information, background and meaning. At this point, it's my go-to book when a chapter proves to be a tough nut to crack. The Moody Commentary rarely fails to give me not only good insight, but pretty unique insight as well. I find myself appreciating it's "take" on the Scriptures more than any other commentary I've picked up.
