Here's one of mine. I can tell this one publicly, because I wasn't stupid, just ignorant- and there's a difference!
About a year and half ago or maybe two, one of the people in our community named Glad called me up and told me she had a friend staying with her who played the guitar. Did I want him to bring it Sunday and, you know, play?
Uh... Well... Uh... Sure have him bring it. I'll talk to Rich and see what he thinks.
I completely space it, Sunday rolls around. We're setting up and I remember... Dang it! We put our heads together and decide... we don't really know this guy, so...
He comes just a few minutes before the gathering, I lamely explain that we just don't really have any space in the morning where we could use some music (we've never done "special music")... He's very understanding...
But I feel bad. So I tell him maybe after he could play some while we're tearing down.
So he plays.
Yeah... he plays...
D'oh...
So anyway. You should check him out. Trace Bundy.com. And if he's coming through town and wants to play at your thing, don't be dumb like Bob... :)
sadness... on the sunday kimberly and i decide to sleep in and worship satan, we miss the guitar show.
and bob's message.

Never... ever... ever space off making room for someone to play in service... ever again.

Dude - I had Trace out to do a concert at a local coffee shop and to play for our students at our conference this summer. He is not only an incredible player but he is a humble, loving, "missional", and subversive follower of Jesus. I want him in the flow of my life forever...he is incredible. Go for it and tell him that I recommended him!
