gotta love derek webb...
We're showing this video this morning as a lead-in to our sunday gathering and our discussion of Col. 2:13-23
I'm a husband, father, pastor and church planter
Love Derek Webb but have lately been thinking about the whole political thing and how it relates to the "kingdom".
When I read "Profoundly Disturbed..." I felt like I wrote it. The "Christian Right" has always irritated me. I hate when religion is infused with politics.
I feel strongly about some political issues, but can't stand it when it is made to be a part of the church. Our church currently participated (as a church) in a "life chain" event. I'm a staff guy there, but didn't participate. (and I hate abortion and it's effects) When I look at the Scriptures whenever Jesus was approached about things political, his reply was always the same. Basically, he would say that's not my deal. I am here about the kingdom, and he never entered that arena.
He was huge in the cause of social justice, but always did it outside of the political arena.
So I guess I'm asking where is the line of participation? Which kingdom are we building? How are we aware, and active in causes that we believe in, can we do it as "people" and leave the church out of it?
