Chris Leo has this good quote from Scot McKnight's just released The Real Mary:

"...Why write a book about Mary? Because the real Mary always leads us to Jesus. When we discover the real Mary, the one who lived in first-century Galilee with Joseph, who I believe nurtured other children, and who struggled at times herself, we also discover someone we can embrace because Mary embraced her son as we are called to do. When you find the real Mary of Scripture, the Mary of the first century, you'll discover that she'll be talking about Jesus and pointing us all to Jesus."

Good quote.

In those traditions which have a relationship with Mary, it is said that she always points to Christ.

Indeed, even in Scripture, she says "Do whatever he tells you".

The Office... Okay, I admit it. As a big fan of the British TV series The Office, I was at first uninterested (and frankly a bit dumbfounded) by the idea of them making an American version of the show. And when I watched the first couple of episodes of the american series, based as they were on the scripts from the Brit show, I was just really turned off. It didn't seem as funny, and to see them attempt some of the same jokes and situations, but without Ricky Gervais... it just seemed lame. Lame, lame, lame... But I've repented. That's right- changed my mind! With a bit of space between me and the last time I watched the British series, and with giving the US one a decent shot, I can now say- it rocks. Seriously, seriously funny. Not the same as the british, which is good. Steve Carell has got his own thing going on... If you haven't given it a chance, you too should repent. Yeah- the original was good, but it's gone... get over it! :) I got my wife to watch a couple episodes last night, and I think she might be hooked! Rock on... So, let's...

Speaking of repentance... Let me do a bit. I'm a introvert. So everything I have to say next should be filtered through that lame excuse, okay? I have always been the kind that becomes reticent in public. Connecting with people out and about has never been my thing... I've never "made a friend" in a public space. For me, friendships have always been formed in social space- places where I know that we are all there for the same reason and people are open to relationship based on some commonality- places like church or school. I think for me the issue in public space is rejection. What if I try to strike up a conversation and people think I'm weird. What if the reject me?? Now I'm seeing that needs to change. And it slowly has, bit by bit. One step in this long, long process has been to committing to doing nearly all of the things I used to do for church in public spaces. There are always non-Christians present at our worship gatherings and theology discussions and man-nights at the Brass... why? Because they are paid to be there. Beauty. Good first step. But a continuation of lameness if it stops...
