Not a great day, but a good day.
Since being here I've had some good conversations with Mark Driscoll, Doug Pagitt, Karen Ward, Shane Hipps, Tim Condor, DJ Chuang...
More about that in a bit.
First the hard parts... trying to decompress has been harder this year, for sure. Much more on my mind, a constant stream of emails (and don't suggest that I simply avoid checking... I wish! I've had about 45 today and we're not done yet. The thought of opening my email this weekend or next monday and seeing that many in my inbox... ugh. So, I choose to keep checking, keep up on it... but there needs to be some balance, perhaps).
I've been having trouble with sleep again- not getting to sleep, but sleeping past 4 or 4:30. So last night, I got in late after a long day (up at 4, leave the house at 4:30am, flight at 6:40) and a fun evening (got the invite up to the magic Zondervan Suite! Enjoyed a Fat Tire and some good conversation with Doug Pagitt, Shane Hipps and Skye Jethani from the Out of Ur blog) and back to the room about 10 or 10:30 thinking "I am going to sleep tonight!"
And I did... until 4:30am when the alarm that the last guest in our room had set and forgotten to turn off started screaming at me.
Not the best start to a day.
Anyway, I won't dwell on the negatives too much... But I haven't yet hit that nirvana of rest and sabbath quite yet. A really, really bad headache and still trying to wrap up February's Next Wave have conspired against that.
But I'm hopeful.
I love coming to this pastor's convention... but I can see that every year I spend away from evangelicalism in the post-evangelical world, the less this thing and what goes on here is going to make sense to me, and the less I will make sense to it/those here.
Did I mention I had some nice interactions with Mark Driscoll?
:)

That's cool! Are you comfortable telling us more about your conversations?
