I'm sitting at the National Pastor's Convention... in the first session of "Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches", also known as "Doug and Mark In The Same Room!!"
If I were perfectly honest, I'd have to admit that I'm in this seminar for much the same reasons most people go to Hockey games... it's really not about the score- we all know which team we're rooting for, and it's really not about what the final score is- we just want to see what happens on the ice. And we're all, in a very sick way, hoping for a fight.
I honestly don't want to see a fight- but I do want to see some real discussion.
Chris said it well- we often see these guys/gals talking about each other... but rarely do we see them talking to each other. So, I'm excited.
The cool thing is, I have reason to hope for some good discussion. Doug Pagitt let Chris and I check out a copy of the book this thing is based on, and from what we saw by scanning quickly, it looked great. It seems as though the contributers were interacting with each other's theology in a substantive, not harsh but not overly polite way.
I'll keep you updated on the fireworks...
hey bob I just finished reading through this book last week and it sure does cover the theological spectrum, even at the risk of saying some of it even flirts or dances right on outside of traditional evangelicalism (what ever that is anymore) anyway, can not wait to hear about the seminar!
