The Gospel...

Luther_beer For those who think that either evangelism or the Gospel is lost in emerging churches like evergreen, let me recommend this post by Chris Sowers, blogger, Christ-follower and fairly standard emerging church-type guy (notice the conversation about Jesus took place in a bar!).


Apparently, there's still some Gospel up in here, eh?

Doug and Ingrid... and some rambling... Ahh... Doug Pagitt gets sucked into the New Slice of Laodicea vortex, even dropping a comment there and an entry on his blog, both of which are followed by anti-emerging church folks who exemplify the "Let me misunderstand/misrepresent you and then proceed to rip that misunderstanding to shreds" method of conversation. As for me, it takes something really egregious to even get me to respond to these folks anymore, which I think is some measure of progress. They speak into an echo chamber, and I'm increasingly content to allow them to do so. What does frustrate me, however, are some of the reports coming back from the decent number of evergreeners who attend Western Seminary, my alma mater and where I plan (eventually!) to get my DMin, of increasing numbers of professor-tirades warning students of the "dangers of the emerging church." I'm all for eyes being open to the downsides as well as the upsides of any movement- egalitarian, charismatic, Reformed, emerging church, whatever... But honestly, Doug hits in his comment what's been my main concern for a long time- the absolute slander that masquerades as "critique" among many of those who launch said breathless tirades.
