No, no, no...
"Many, if not most"??? Nah... Just got this email... this is the church here in Porkloin, Oregon that Marcus Borg is a part of... "The Center for Spiritual Development at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is offering lecture/workshop weekends in March and April that we feel will be of interest to your congregation. Paul Knitter, the Paul Tillich Professor of Theology, World Religions and Culture and Union Theological Seminary will give a Friday evening lecture March 14 at 7:30pm titled, “If All Religions are Good, Is Mine the Best?” and Saturday workshop March 15 from 9am to 3pm titled, “Without Buddha I Could Not Be a Christian: A Christian Dialogue with Buddhism. Paul Knitter is a clear voice about the importance of interfaith dialogue in our complex and religiously pluralist world. In Friday's lecture Knitter will explore the fact that many, if not most, Christians now look upon other religions in a positive way, as instruments of God’s action; but they still insist that Christianity is the best of religions insofar as it represents the fullness of truth given by the one and only Savior. Sorry...
Sorry I haven't been very present here. I've been "busy," mentally, putting the Dad thing to rest and dealing with other assorted fruits and nuts (more on that in a second). In regards to Dad... I forgive him. He's just doing what comes naturally, taking the easy way out. It sucks, but to be honest, we're really not missing out. It's not like he's an even marginally ok guy who is giving all kinds of interpersonal goodness to others and withholding from me and mine. He lives like a hermit and really never offers anything to anyone. So, the idea of us seeing him, and letting him meet my kids was more for him (it certainly wasn't for them- in fact, I was a bit worried about him freaking them out). So if he doesn't want that, well... okay. And it's not like I personally need anything from him- I long ago disassociated various father-needs I felt from the actual biological father I had. I kind of had to. I mean, yes- it would have been nice to have him show an interest, begin to actually work at being present, at least at significant events... but we're way past that...
