I know, I know... we're only half-way through '08, but still...
What could top this comment on the subject of Christians and tipping?
"My wife and I have resolved this. We tip the same "$3 and a gospel tract" anywhere we eat regardless of where it is and how the service was.
It is just silly pragmatism to think that the gospel will suffer because of the amount of money I leave for the waiter(ess) following the meal.
On the other hand, it's also silly piety to think highly of myself and/or worry about my "image" in the first place. After all, If I'm presenting the gospel correctly to the waiter(ess) my poor tip will further testify to the fact that there was no good thing in me to merit my salvation."
Oh. My. Gosh.

Well ... it was right in line with the original (tight fisted) post that it was a comment on. Biblical justification of stinginess ... made me feel dirty just reading it.

That's just horrific. I would have thought the Biblical principle at stake was "Don't be a jerk." Maybe they're related to this guy, who I thought was wryly sarcastic until I realized he was serious. Put him down as a runner-up.

A friend of mine who is a waiter says that he "sighs" when he sees a family praying over their meal. He says that is a sure sign of a cheap tip.

Wow. I am actually going to lose sleep over that comment. I talk about this kind of thing all of the time, but I like to operate on the assumption that most Christians just haven't thought about it. This guy and his wife actually have, and actually typed it out as if it were enlightened.
