Coffee Shop Conversation

JR Briggs has a good recap of a great conversation in a coffee shop... would that all our interactions about Jesus would go this well! 


"Last Tuesday morning I was waiting to meet someone at a coffee shop in Lansdale when I noticed a guy reading a pamphlet titled "Islam and Christianity." I asked him what he was learning and what his motivations were for reading a pamphlet like that. He explained to me that he believed in Jesus, but wanted to know more of the similarities than the differences between the two religions. He told me that he is believes in Jesus, but isn't a Christian - and doesn't desire to be..."

Negative Campaigning... It's like shooting yourself in the foot... just before a long, long walk through harsh terrain. Stupid, painful and potentially life-threatening. We live in a democracy (okay, a representative republic, but still...) where the phrase "He's not MY President!" is not only meaningless (he or she is your president, regardless of whom you voted for) but dangerously irresponsible, seeing as how it's exactly that partisan gridlock that's at the heart of most of our problems (or, at least our inability to solve them). The problem is, that sentiment/irresponsibility can be traced directly to the candidates themselves, and the scorn they heap on each other during the campaign. To put it simply, it's exceedingly hard to say one week that your opponent is an inexperienced naif that people would be dumb to support and the next that you support him wholeheartedly as the best person for the job. I think that's a brilliant ad- and I hope politicians on both sides will learn something from it: Go easy on your opponent in the primaries lest your words come back to do damage later. You have little credibility in supporting someone when there's abundant YouTubevidence that you think they are a train...
